What is Full Circle?
Each month, we’ll come together to be moved, nourished, and uplifted by the power of Community Singing in the oral tradition.
Together, we’ll sing a collection of easy-to-learn, soulful, and uplifting songs learned by ear. We’ll play with harmonies, layer songs, and sing those “don’t make me think” songs that move us out of our minds and into our bodies. As always, no singing experience is required.
Community Singing is one of the oldest ways humans have created a sense of belonging. As a wellness practice, it offers us a chance to slow down, breathe more deeply, and experience the joy and connection that can come from singing together.
The songs we sing will speak to themes of belonging and connection, earth and water, grief and joy, courage and freedom, nature and community, to name a few. They are songs you can keep tucked away in your pocket for moments when you need them, and songs you can weave into the rhythm of your daily life.
*This monthly gathering will be an adult-focused space, recommended for ages 13 and up. For a child-friendly gathering, please see my monthly Singing Mamas sessions.
Meet Mila, Your Song Leader
Mila Redwood is a Community Song Leader and the founder of Sing for Joy in Toronto, where she spent more than a decade creating spaces for people to experience the joy, belonging, and connection that come from singing together.
Her approach is rooted in the oral tradition — simple, inclusive, participatory singing that requires no musical training and invites everyone into the circle. Mila pioneered a Community Singing movement in Ontario that has grown exponentially over the past decade. Today, she leads Song Leader trainings for folks who want to bring more song to the world.
Location
We are fortunate to hold these gatherings at the beautiful Camp Kawartha Environment Centre. Located next to Trent University’s stunning wildlife sanctuary lands in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough), the Environment Centre is renowned as one of the most innovative and sustainable building designs in all of Canada. Nestled amongst two hundred acres of cedar forest, we’ll gather in this warm and welcoming sanctuary for an evening of singing together in community.
There are parking spaces available onsite for those driving, as well as public transportation options. The Environment Centre is wheelchair accessible. Please let me know if you have any additional accessibility needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have never sung in a group before. Is this okay?
Yes, absolutely. Our songs are learned by ear, in the oral tradition of call-and-response. Simply, this means repeat after me! No singing experience is required whatsoever.
What are we going to sing?
At Full Circle, we sing songs that will fill up your cup. Songs that were made to nourish your soul, uplift your spirit, and offer a good helping hand to move through this journey of life. These ‘don't make me think’ songs move us out of our minds and into our bodies, so that we can experience more deeply the beauty and power of singing together.
How should I prepare for our sessions?
There is no need to prepare, practice, or rehearse anything! Just come as you are. Please know that you are welcome however you are – tired and weary, fully ablaze in your brilliance, or anywhere in between.
How are you dealing with covid, colds, and flus?
In an effort to keep everyone healthy, I ask that you stay home if you are sick, have tested positive for covid in the five days before, or have had an exposure with someone who has tested positive in the past five days.
The room that we will sing in is equipped with an air filter and windows that open for ventilation.
Masking is optional and welcome. For the purpose of creating a nourishing singing experience, Mila will not be wearing a mask.
I am on a fixed income. Am I still able to participate?
I am holding a few spots each season for sliding scale and scholarships. Please contact Mila if you would like to learn more about these opportunities: mila@singforjoy.ca.
I respectfully acknowledge that these gatherings will take place on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg. This area was originally called Nogojiwanong, Ojibwa for “place at the end of rapids”. We will gather near the shore of the Odenabe River, which was a gathering place for Indigenous people. Odenabe, or Otonabee, means the“river that beats like a heart”. I strive to learn to recognize my part in the ongoing history of colonization, and to understand how our community can work towards reconciliation, repair, and uplifting indigenous values and traditions.
